Frequently asked questions
What metadata does a PDF contain?
Typically the author name (often your real name or company login), title, subject, keywords, the software that created it, and creation/modification timestamps. Many PDFs also embed an XMP metadata block with the same information in XML form.
Why remove metadata before sharing?
Metadata can leak your identity, employer, or the fact that a "final" document was edited five minutes before sending. Stripping it is standard practice for job applications, legal filings and anonymous submissions.
Does this change how the PDF looks?
No. Only invisible metadata is removed — pages, text and images are untouched.
Does it remove hidden text or annotations too?
